Leeuwarden is surrounded by water and beautiful nature. An environment that is very popular with water sports enthusiasts, nature lovers and peace seekers.
A beautiful nature
In the heart of Friesland, in the triangle between Leeuwarden, Heerenveen and Drachten, lies the 2,300 ha wide peat bog De Alde Feanen. A very varied landscape consisting of lakes, bog holes, reed beds, rugs, thickets and swamp forests.
The scenic variation creates an enormous wealth of plants and animals. In De Alde Feanen, for example, around 450 species of plants occur and over 100 species of birds breed. Start your visit at the visitor center!
